About the CRFM
A regional initiative advancing sustainable blue economy development across the Caribbean
The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) is an inter-governmental organization and institution of CARICOM, officially inaugurated on 27 March 2003 in Belize City, Belize — where it remains headquartered today.
Our Mission — To promote and facilitate the responsible utilization of the region's fisheries and other aquatic resources for the economic and social benefits of the current and future population of the region.
Our Vision — The sustainable use of fisheries and aquaculture resources in and among Member States, through the development, management, and conservation of those resources.
Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The CRFM works across the Caribbean to support food security, sustainable livelihoods, fisheries research, climate resilience, and the blue economy. Key focus areas include combating IUU (illegal, unreported, and unregulated) fishing, managing sargassum impacts, strengthening small-scale fisheries, and facilitating regional trade in fish and aquatic products.
The development of the Caribbean Blue Economy is a shared responsibility. Whether you are a government official, researcher, fisherfolk, entrepreneur, or citizen — there is a role for you in building a more sustainable blue future.
